Want to live in Gaspé? Various resources are available to help you through each step of the process, as well as to welcome you and help you settle in your new environment.
Young People (aged 18 to 35)
Place aux jeunes La Côte-de-Gaspé offers free assistance for young people aged 18 to 35, locally or remotely, helping with basic needs such as job search, housing and other needs for settling in the MRC de La Côte-de -Gaspé. The organization also offers exploratory stays to meet employers and community organizations.
People aged 35 and over and Immigrants
Service d’accueil aux nouveaux arrivants (SANA) de La Côte-de-Gaspé offers settlement support (job search, housing, etc.) to adults over 35 as well as to immigrants of any age wishing to settle in the region. It also provides support for administrative immigration procedures as well as orientation for francization services, etc.
Newcomers’ Committee
Comité d’accueil des nouveaux arrivants de la MRC de La Côte-de-Gaspé, run jointly by Place aux jeunes and the SAPI, organizes activities (e.g. annual intercultural dinner) for newcomers to help them discover their new environment and build a social network.
Available Programs
Employment Integration Program for Immigrants and Visible Minorities (PRIIME)
Employers hiring immigrants who have not yet worked in their field in North America may be entitled to wage support and a grant for additional fees. Details and conditions are available on the Government of Quebec Website.
Airfare Reduction Program
Designed for residents of the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine, this program offers a 30% discount on air fares for travel whose origin and final destination are located in Quebec. Details and conditions are available on the Government of Quebec Website.
Provincial and Federal Deductions for Moving Expenses
When filing your income tax return, you may be entitled to a moving expense deduction if you moved for employment purposes or go to school full-time in Canada, and you are at least 40 km away from your place of study or work.
